Fact, fiction and friendship in facing the end
The play pits the historical Zorba against Nikos Kazantzakis, the author of the novel Zorba the Greek. The ensuing polemic touches on the nature of friendship, fiction and the responsibility of writers to their subjects. The ebb and flow of their encounter runs through the relationship of two contemporary characters who seek to overcome the challenges of ageing and illness through the transformative power of theatre and music.
Zorba’s Last Dance will also be livestreamed on Friday, Aug 9, 7.30pm. Livestream playback will be available for 72 hours after the show.
