Led by Shane Grant, Technical Manager at La Mama Theatre and independent lighting designer, and Kat Carrington, Production Coordinator at Footscray Community Arts and independent producer / production manager, this workshop will provide valuable insights into the art of balancing creativity and logistics for theatre. The workshop will cover the essential tools needed to bring any production to the stage.

Kat Carrington
Kat Carrington (she/they) is a creative producer, production manager, and arts administrator working primarily in theatre and life performance. She is interested in working with others to facilitate creativity; providing administrative support to artists so they can focus on their creative practice. She has worked in community arts spaces including Footscray Community Arts, Schoolhouse Studios, and La Trobe University Student Theatre and Film, and across independent Melbourne theatres, including La Mama, fortyfive downstairs, and Theatre Works.
Shane Grant: Lighting Designer/Gentleman of the theatre
Shane has been acknowledged as an “Absolute Genius” (Theatre People, 30/7/16) for his lighting design of Sarah Kane’s 4:48 Psychosis. Shane earned a Bachelor of Arts (Performing Arts) from the Victorian College of the Arts, Melbourne University, some time ago. Shane is an artistic director with Metanoia theatre. Shane has: toured the world; operated venues and technically managed venues (Gasworks, Mechanics Institute Brunswick, St Martins, La Mama); written shows; performed shows; stage managed shows; sold tickets to shows; produced shows; sold drinks in the foyer at shows; built props; built sets; built theatres; and given the St Crispin’s Day speeches that get everyone over the line on opening night—sometimes all with the same production. Some recent notable shows that Shane has written or designed are: Samah Sabawi’s Tales of a City by the Sea, Them (La Mama Courthouse and national tour), Hard boiled bush noir (Playwright – Ruby Tout Theatre Theatre), Scream Bloody Murder (Abbotsford Convent), Wages of Fear (Playwright – Metanoia Theatre at the Mechanic’s Institute), Toorak Rules (St Martins Theatre), Last Words (Kadimah Cultural Centre), Death of a salesman (45 Downstairs and national tour) Soul of possum (Yirramboi festival) A Body at work (La Mama HQ).
