Join us for the final Musica before La Mama pauses regular programming in 2025.
A double bill featuring Rebetika ensemble Anatreptix and special guests TGK, performing their only side show in Naarm before the Woodford Folk Festival.
6.30pm – TGK play the latest horas, hit pop songs, and traditional boys dances where they slap themselves. Three heart throbs in lots of black leather and macho jewellery.
Nicu (vocals, keys), Lucian (violin) and Mihai (electric bass) have taught members of Australian lady group Vardos in their regular trips to Eastern Europe to study folk and Roma (sometimes known as Gypsy) music. Image by Alex Clarke.
7.30pm – Anatreptix play the music of the Greek underground from the 1930s through to late ’50s. Anatreptix will be joined by a percussionist for the night, with a lively set of music that touches the core of the human condition.
Maria Antaras-Dalamagas (accordion, vocals), Kat Stevens (violin), Paul Dounias (bouzouki, vocals), Alex Petropoulos (guitar, vocals) and Rosco Heck (percussion). Image by Darren Gill.
Presented in collaboration with The Boîte
Musica Dec 2024: End of year celebration! will also be livestreamed. Livestream playback will be available for 72 hours after the show.
