In response to the festival theme of REBIRTH, this window art installation depicts a variety of flourishing native garden motifs including the titular plant (the Banksia) as well as Victoria’s floral emblem the common heath. Motifs of Australian gum leaves gently frame this piece.

Throughout the venue on smaller windows there are singular motifs of banksias appearing to grow from out of the building. The window garden reminds us of the continual rebirthing we experience through life and celebrates the new season and chapter of La Mama as a place of growth, discovery and of joy. The singular banksias remind us of to look for and celebrate the individuals that create the community around La Mama.

Location:  On the windows

The artist stands by a window looking directly at the camera. The shadow of the botanical line art drawn on the window spills across her face and torso.

AUDIO DESCRIPTION: ALL THE WORLD’S A GARDEN

“All the World’s a Garden” is a temporary chalk art installation drawn free-hand onto the windows of La Mama. The work is drawn in white chalk art and focuses on linework and familiar shapes in a native garden. In response to the festival theme of REBIRTH, I chose to  depict a variety of flourishing native garden motifs including the titular plant (the Banksia) as well as other native flora such as everlasting daisies and Victoria’s floral emblem – the common heath.  Motifs of Australian gum leaves gently frame this piece. A few butterflies are drawn to show the new flourishing life in this garden. Throughout the venue on smaller windows there are singular motifs of banksias appearing to grow from out of the building. The window gardens are an indicator of the continual rebirthing we experience through life and celebrates the new season and chapter of La Mama as a place of growth, discovery and of joy. The singular banksias remind us of to look for and celebrate the individuals that create the community around La Mama.

This piece “All the World’s a Garden” was inspired by my own many rebirths as an artist over the sixteen years I have called Melbourne home.
