A Phoenix rises from the ashes to awaken the new La Mama and dance in the night sky – a visually stunning, new aerial work by Niow / Melinda Hetzel & Co.

A site-specific, aerial work celebrating rebirth, Phoenix creates an unexpected moment of the sublime within the urban landscape. The stunning visuals created in this performance, evoke a transformative feeling of connectedness, wonder and joy.

Choreographed for the architecture of La Mama’s buildings, new and old, Phoenix seeks to honour the history of the site and the land on which the piece is performed. Rising from the ashes, the phoenix reflects our shared loss, our resilience, and our hope for the future.

Phoenix has been created especially for the reopening of La Mama by Niow and Melinda Hetzel & Co.
