Myf Powell is a theatre maker, musician, teacher and inclusive arts practitioner. Passionate about the power of creativity to transform lives and transcend boundaries, Myf is active throughout Melbourne’s community arts scene as a Producer and Director.
Myf holds a Bachelor of Arts in Performance Studies from Victoria University (1992), Masters in Text and Performance from the University of London’s Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts / Kings College London (1997), and a Masters in Community Cultural Development from the University of Melbourne (2009). Myf has taught secondary drama & theatre studies and lectured in performance studies at Victoria University & RMIT.
Myf’s previous roles include Artistic Director of City of Voices Inclusive Theatre (2004-2022), Elder Clown for The Humour Foundation bringing fun and laughter to people in aged care facilities (2013-2022), Creative Producer / Acting Manager Artist Engagement at Arts Access Victoria (2018-2021), Local Program Coordinator for The Humour Foundation (2015-18) and Performance Coordinator for The Torch (2010-13). Myf has written, performed, directed and produced original creative work in both Australia and the UK, including the Edinburgh Fringe, Melbourne Fringe, St Kilda Festival and International Art of Difference Festival. Working in venues ranging from the banks of the Thames River in London to the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden, from the Butterfly Club in Melbourne to atop a double decker bus en route to St Kilda.
Myf is currently Co-Director of the Vossanova Choir an inclusive, community singing ensemble based in South Melbourne and Co-Facilitator of Arts Access Victoria’s Echo Collective a performing arts, experimental ensemble based in Melbourne’s west.
Passionate about the relationship between grass roots creative development in community and world class contemporary original theatre practice, Myf began working as Outreach and Community Engagement Producer at La Mama in 2021, before evolving her role to Development and Pathways Manager in 2023.
