LA MAMA EDUCATION: Selected LA MAMA PRESENTS productions (March and May)
La Mama Education actively engages students and educators with artists in a diverse range of contemporary theatre opportunities and activities, to assist curriculum studies and to provide possible future pathways for lifelong connections as both theatre-makers and as audience members. Other school excursion advice and theatre tours are available all year.
In 2026 LIFT OFF, a new student ambassadorial opportunity, will be launched.
• 4 x LA MAMA PRESENTS shows are submitted to Victorian Curriculum Assessment Authority (VCAA) and form our Education program. VCAA decide the final number of work/s on the playlist.
• Artists are assisted with the VCAA Drama and Theatre Studies Playlist Application process, the provision of additional matinees, after-show forums and supplementary study resources and a published version of the script through Currency Press.
• Education Producer Maureen Hartley and Artistic Director Caitlin Dullard select works for submission to the VCAA. La Mama will work with up to five selected LA MAMA PRESENTS works to submit to VCAA in June for selection the following year, selecting candidates through the PLAY application process. Education Producer Maureen Hartley manages other year-round secondary education opportunities.
• This opportunity is appropriate for artists who are programmed in LA MAMA PRESENTS that align with curriculum objectives.

LA MAMA ON DEMAND: Aligns with LA MAMA PRESENTS (Feb – May)
LA MAMA ON DEMAND is our digital stage, bringing bold Australian theatre to audiences anytime, anywhere. LA MAMA PRESENTS shows are filmed live and the On Demand season takes place for one week at the close of the live seasons. Occasional livestreams of special events also extend La Mama’s reach beyond Melbourne - connecting regional, interstate, and international audiences, and ensuring that access to great theatre knows no boundaries.
• All 8 x LA MAMA PRESENTS shows are presented ON DEMAND for one week after the in-theatre run pending copyright permission for non-original music.
• La Mama manages the recording, editing, and distribution, allowing audiences to book ahead and access the video. This offers artists an opportunity to earn extra income, provides a valuable recording for future use, and Tickets for the on-demand performance are pay-what-you-want with a $10 minimum, with the standard 80 % Box Office split going to the artists. Recordings will be scheduled during normal performance hours in the first week of the production season. In-kind value is included in the LA MAMA PRESENTS deal.
• On Demand Producer Ruiqi Fu coordinates the filming with Presents Producer Nicki Jam.
• This opportunity is for artists who are programmed in LA MAMA PRESENTS.
