ONLINE EVENT

La Mama Mobile had to postpone this tour in March 2020. Jennifer Monk and the team from GIRLS ACT GOOD have adapted the touring model and will be presenting Ladies of the Bay- THE BROADCAST.

This is a special theatre experience available for the audience to watch from the comfort of their very own home. We will be using state of the art equipment to pre-film the live performance of Ladies of the Bay. The cast will perform with the original set, props and costume with multiple cameras set up to capture each moment. Pairing the magic of theatre and film, this is a concept used by the National Theatre in London when broadcasting their live theatre productions at Cinemas across the world, and it is also an exciting process for us to use now to adapt to the current times.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions with our theatres not able to open and audiences unable to gather, this theatre piece will be performed on an outdoor set to allow stage hands, actors and crew to film this play in its original theatre format, in a safe environment during these uncertain times. The actors will perform the play live with cameras set up following the story so the audience can get a similar experience to that of when they would be sitting in a theatre.

This is a way that artists can still create content in a live format during isolation and people can still support NOW, rather than waiting for the months and possible years that it will take for the arts to recover.

How does it work?

A funny, vivacious, new show inspired by real stories from Aussie summer days where friends reminisce about the simpler times.

Ladies of the Bay returns after a sold out season in 2019.

Nat, Tracy, Fiona and Naomi have grown up together in the Bay. They have gone through many life changes, but their enduring friendship carries on with their summer tradition – camping at the caravan park. Here, they gossip, tell it like it is and reveal secrets all over a cheeky glass at happy hour. But when tragedy strikes their town will these childhood friends be there for one another?

Ladies of the Bay will take you laughing and crying back to your own summers. Sometimes all we have are the memories.

Content warning: this production includes content related to significant bush fires. Members of the public that have experienced bush fire trauma are advised that some content may be triggering or uncomfortable.

The performances so excellent as to make the naturalistic style of presentation seem so easy, familiar and very real.
