Union House Theatre (UHT)
Union House Theatre supports the development of student theatre–this evening is an opportunity for students to present works in development.
Union House Theatre is the hub for co-curricular student theatre at the University of Melbourne. We program performances, masterclasses and events giving students a taste of professional practice. We have been nurturing student playwrights, directors, performers and technicians since 1969! This Explorations Opportunity is a chance for current students within our development program to show their works in progress and develop their theatrical pursuits. Over three nights we will present 6 new works / or part-works. These works can take any shape or form-they might be scripts, devised works, dance,new-musicals, comedy–the choice is theirs.
It was a real privilege working with UHT and the Writers program this year. We had a large group and I was mightily impressed by the dedication and calibre of the writers. It is a fantastic training ground for emerging playwrights as evidenced by past alumni, and I can’t wait to see many of these plays on Melbourne stages soon.

The program provided me the opportunity to workshop my piece with peers and a mentor who had an interest in its merit and story, not simply whether it was meeting the criteria of a grading rubric.
