TANGLED YARNS // APRON STRINGS // EARRING POKES // BURIED IN THE SUN AND MOTHER
FROM THE PLAYWRIGHT: When I first set out to write this work, I asked this question. What is it within the dynamics of sexual relationships that obstructs our understanding of matter (the body) as a vehicle for the spirit to express love? This inquiry sprang from an involvement, an intimate relationship in which I was triggered by my lover’s judgements of my sexuality. An encounter which challenged my understanding of the body and its ability to express love. I was keen to find out why and how this concept held power over me. THE BLAZING SON is dark. It looks at the dark side of sexuality; expectation and attachment. It also holds within it a quest for light. Its’ characters act out their sexual rebellion in the name of freedom or find themselves ensnared within the repression of sexual possession; each journeying to reclaim their true sexual nature back in an effort to surrender to the wholeness of love.
