Climate Change and the Arts – Communicating Above the Political Noise

La Mama is proud to present an interactive panel session on environment and the arts. The arts are a powerful communication tool and can be used as a medium to engage the community in matters of ethical and environmental concern. Equally the environment influences the way we create, portray and interact with art. La Mama presents four diverse speakers, from various parts of the arts and environmental community to lead an interactive discussion on the influence the arts can have on our understanding of the environment, and the influence the environment can have on our notions of art. We will also consider the impact the arts has on the environment, and ways in which we might, as a concerned arts community, look to reducing that impact and driving our industry towards a lighter footprint on the planet.

The afternoon will be facilitated by Pippa Bainbridge and will be an informal opportunity to discuss the synergy between the arts and the environment and to discuss the meaningful change that artists are making in our community.

Speakers will include:

Melanie Bainbridge – Climate Change Coordinator, Writer, Musician and Publisher
John McKissock from Clearlight Shows – LED Lighting Specialist
Mark Ogge – Strategic Director of Beyond Zero Emissions and Award Winning Fine Artist

Tea, coffee and homemade cake will be provided.
