Flash Donahs is a gritty and entertaining exposé of young working-class larrikin women in 1880’s Melbourne, with stories of the struggles of real women and the flamboyant world of the popular stage. The glittering world of Bourke Street on a Saturday night was only a ‘stones throw’ away from the brothels and opium-dens of Little Lonsdale Street. Talk of the dangers of the ‘larrikin menace’ was everywhere and ‘respectable society’ was fearful for the future of the Colony of Victoria. Flash Donahs will show you a side of Melbourne’s past that your great, great-grandmother didn’t write about in her diary.
