LA MAMA POETICA NIGHT
La Mama Poetica is a night of some of the best spoken word and poetry that Melbourne has to offer.
February 16 features Geoff Page, Chloe Wilson, Matt Hetherington and Brigitte Lewis
GEOFF PAGE has published nineteen collections of poetry, as well as prose and verse novels. His poetic style ranges from lyrical to satirical, and often addresses his concerns about contemporary society and politics. Page curates the Poetry at the Gods and Jazz at the Gods series at the Gods Cafe in Canberra, and is the poetry reviewer fo ABC Radio’s The Book Show. He has won the Queensland Premier’s Literary Award for Poetry, the Patrick White Award, the Grace Leven Prize for Poetry and the Christopher Brennan Award.
CHLOE WILSON is the author of Not Fox Nor Axe (Hunter Publishers) and The Mermaid Problem. Her poetry has also been published in The Age, Best Australian Poems, Going Down Swinging, and Meanjin and been awarded the Gwen Harwood Prize, the John Marsden Prize for Young Australian Writers, the (Melbourne) Lord Mayor´s Creative Writing Award for Poetry, and the Arts Queensland Val Vallis Award. She lives in Melbourne.
MATT HETHERINGTON is a writer, music maker, and self-promoter living in Brisbane. He has been writing poetry for over thirty years, and has published four poetry collections and over 300 poems. His first all haiku/senryu collection For Instance was published in March 2015 by Mulla Mulla Press. He is also on the board of the Australian Haiku Society
BRIGITTE LEWIS is a poet first, academic second, and actually really dislikes ideological frameworks. Find her work in Overland, Cordite, Archer and pick up her erotic lesbian poetic novel Rubbing Mirrors from Hares & Hyenas. She’s currently turning her PhD on the limits of rationality and how they can be transcended, into a book on 21st century Australian female identity creation.
